WEEK ELEVEN

WEEK 11 OF THE COACH
WE GOT ALL OUR TRAININGS IN BUT NOW THE RAINS HAVE CAME

Coaching turned out to be a fun week as all the drills on hitting skills finally came to fruition. It was great to see the smiles on the girls faces, as the softballs sailed to the fence. One girl remarked that she had never hit a ball to leftfield in her life. I told them this was just a start,  if we want to be competitive everyone must be able to hit, and bunt.
At the end we have a competitive game with the loosers having to pick up, and put all the equipment away. A point is scored for every base touched, and if anyone strikes out they deduct a  point from their team. This puts a very realistic game situation in front of them, and it is very interesting watching their plan of attack.
It also lets the coach sit back and watch the players perform under different pressure situations, and they realize if they don't put it together in practice they will not get the chance to put it together in a game. This is where we see who has the mental toughness, and disciplin to make our final team.
At the end of training Fiona my assistant coach went over their hitting with her i-pad. This program is called the coach's eye and for someone, like me who is not real flash on it technologie, this is brillant and saves, alot of explanation as you just show them.
When training was over i called them all together, and told them how happy i was with there hitting, plus their new found enthusiasm at training. I said, you keep improving like this over the next two months we are going to have a ball team, that will be hard to beat.

That was training for the Canberra Diamonds, now the work of the coaching director came into play. One head coach, felt the assistant coach, was not following instructions and trying to take over. It was a little bit dicy, but when all avenues were looked at it was a case of being over protective of her son who played on the team. It is the worst situation in coaching, and i know, i coached my son at world level.
This week on Sunday is our coach's and rules meeting, this is so coach's know what to do in keeping up their levels. There is a lot of preperation for this meeting, so i better say bye for now, and see you next week.
 Thankyou and leave a comment.
