WEEK NINE

WEEK NINE LIFE OF SOFTBALL COACH This week faced some new challenges but on the world stage our Aussie Steeler Squad boys sure made the world take notice. In what is considered the best team tournament in the World International softball Congress which was held in Quad City Iowa. Our Aussie boys swept all the awards Adam Folkard best pitcher, Nick Shailes most valuable player and Harrison Peters a pitcher named as player of the future. This is when you get self satisfaction as a coach. Having worked with these players they are very deserving of these awards and this is when a coach gets self satisfaction. On the local scene our men's meeting was held monday night and the most discussed topic was how do we get more boys playing at the grass roots level. We are going to try a new system of advertising, which will be roadside awareness. Then it was time to discuss Australia's biggest men's tournament which has been running for 23 consectitive years. Its called the Canberra skins and attracts teams as far away as Singapore. There is $20000.00 in prize money up for grabs. Last year we added a junior division called Aussies got talent and this is sure taking off, with entries doubling this year. Tuesday night is special pitching training and extra fitness training for our ACT Diamonds and our U/19 girls. Wednesday and Thursday was the final planning stages for our Primary School Championships. A special program was done for the boys and girls with their names and schools they came from. Friday was our primary School Championships see my previous post Special Day of The Coach. Saturday was a quiet day and time to catch up on my worst coaching nightmares the dreaded paper work. Sunday the day of working and coaching our diamonds. They got a workout plus as my assisant coach Vicky put them through a rigourous fitness drill. They started on two feet but in a half hour those who were not fit were on all fours. From there it was time for bunting and throwing skills.
